Gouqi Shan is the biggest island in the Shengsi archipelago. As a result of Yangshan port’s construction (which is connected to Shanghai by Dounghai bridge), this island can be reached within few hours from the mainland. Having this strategic location as well as China's largest beach, this island has started becoming a touristic destination for the last years. A two-fold growth of the tourist population within the last decade has led to agricultural plots being used up for new touristic developments. The project strategy is to augment the tourism potential as well as protecting site agricultural characteristic by integrating the local agro-based activity with the ecology of the site. This aim is to be achieved through proposing floating fish farms and floating agricultural plots acting as tourism attraction themselves.
